Process Technology
Green Catalysts uses a proprietary "dehydration" technology for the manufacture of alkoxides.
In Sodium Methylate manufacture, Methanol and Sodium Hydroxide flakes are mixed in methanolic/caustic preparation tanks. The solution is then fed to the reaction column heated with steam where the reaction takes place. The excess methanol vapor along with water formed during the reaction are collected from the top of the reaction column and sent to a stripping column for the recovery of methanol. The separated methanol is then recycled back to the reaction column. The water from the reaction is removed and sent to the water treatment system before discharge
The sodium methylate solution taken from the bottom of the reaction column is checked for quality and sent to the storage tanks. Various grades of SMO solution are made by diluting with methanol. The Sodium methylate solution is shipped either by tank cars/trucks or packaged in drums.
The dehydration process generates little or no waste and methanol emissions are mitigated by state-of-the-art control technology using refrigerated condensation and bio-filtration processes.
The dehydration process is clean, safe and environmentally friendly. Importantly, it produces high quality sodium methylate without impurities like Mercury, making Green Catalysts' Sodium Methylate ideal for esterification reactions in food applications with the most exacting safety requirements.
